Description

Malaria proved to be a major problem that all sides faced during World War 2. Specifically in the Philippines and all of south Asia pesticides were needed in order to kill mosquitoes carrying this disease. While Atabrine tablets were being developed the use of DDT a pesticide developed before the war was in mass production to help kill mosquitoes. The delivery of the pesticides could be delivered through conventional pesticide hoses such as the one above. The “Bug Bomb” was developed to give a frontline soldier the same capability to kill swarming mosquitoes in a compact device. The “bomb” would release DDT when the knob was turned, it can be seen in an early form in the picture above.
